@Prhalloffame – Now on Twitter

8 12 2009

Hi everyone,

Well after a bit of a hiatus I’ve decided to move the daily updates from PR Hall of Fame to Twitter.

I’ve given it a lot of thought (ok, well not that much) and it makes more sense – agencies that get Tweeted about can @ the coverage, retweeet it and it’s still a great archive of the best PR out there. Hopefully it’ll be a bit of a must Twitter feed to subscribe to if you like this Blog.

So here we go http://www.twitter.com/prhalloffame

or you can follow or Tweet re. coverage your agency had a hand in on @prhalloffame

My personal Twitter feed is @bowlesy so follow me there too…

Cheers and keep track of this Blog – I’ll write up longer posts here when a piece of coverage really catches my eye,

Pete

Noel Edmonds Attacks Press Officer

10 02 2009

Celeb: Noel Edmonds (Source: @charltonbrooker)

Org: Wealden District Council (source)

You probably don’t want to get on the wrong side of Noel Edmond’s if you’re in PR. He may just read out your statement, full name, job title, suggest that the public shouldn’t have to pay your wages and that maybe you should lose your job. Ouch.

http://www.wealden.gov.uk/council/Media_Releases/2009/JoeTownsendPlanningStatement2.aspx

Looks like the council believe the planning application for a Royal Marine hero will affect the local environment (probably another show on Noel’s HQ) so there may *just* be two sides to every argument…

This is a must watch for all those who’ve ever worried about “not commenting on rumour or speculation.”

Best Response Source… Ever.

6 02 2009

Response Source: Jeff Marsh at Loaded (source: Tom Malcolm – can I call this a Retweet?)

Well I’ve been away for a little while – so what better way to get this Blog up and running again than to shamelessly steal from a former colleague… Thanks to Tom Malcolm, the legend at Diffusion, for spotting this response source from Jeff at Loaded magazine.  We salute you, sir!

MEDIA OUTLET: Loaded Magazine (editorial request) MEDIA TYPE: Consumer Press

JOURNALIST: Jeff Maysh (staff)

DEADLINE: 03-February-2009 16:00

QUERY: This is a tricky response source to write.

I hope someone can help me out. Sometime between September and October 2008 I visited the film set of the latest British horror flick, ‘Doghouse’. It stars Danny Dyer, which is where the problems started, and also Stephen Graham.

It was my job to go on set and interview the stars and get some photos taken with the blood and guts and stuff. Which I did, but like most of the cast, I’d had a pretty big night the evening before and they werent really up for talking. In fact one actor took my photo using his iPhone and threatened to kill me if I wrote him up badly.

Then I got in trouble for nicking a script, which was just laying around and I thought it was free for all to take. They were worried I’d know the secret ending of the film and blow the plot…how wrong they were, because I cannot remember a fucking thing from after the set bar opened at 11am selling Guiness for a pound a pint.

The film was in Surrey somewhere, I think, I was picked up in a minibus. I remember the PR bringing a cardboard box full of lager. I remember the film seemed REALLY GOOD and the trailer made it look amazing. I have a dictaphone full of interviews, some of them cohesive. I think this will make an excellent feature in Loaded.

I’ve rung the production company, Carnaby International, who claim they dont have a press dept, and Sony, who Carnaby say are releasing the film (Sony havent heard of it).

I’m almost certain this whole episode wasnt all in my imagination, but as I said…I had endured a VERY big night.

If anyone was on set with me, or if this sounds at all familiar, drop me a line,

XXXX

ps. I have recently given up booze.

Matt Smith is the New Dr. Who

3 01 2009

TV Show: Dr Who (Source: Dr. Who Confidential)

The first big PR win of 2009 has to goto the BBC for whipping up excitement on the identity of the new Dr. Who.  It’s finally announced that relative unknown Matt Smith has been chosen – weeks ago he was on 20 to 1 at the bookies for the role, so they’ll be a few people celebrating tonight!

The Beeb’s press department have done a great job of speculating on just ‘who’ it may be.  Could it be the first woman Dr. Who?  Russell T. Davies has said that he’d like Catherine Zeta-Jonesin a way that reminds me of ASDA saying they’d like Carla Bruni to promote George undies.

For the Daily Mail and other naturally non-racist publciations there was the specualtion that it could be the first Black Dr.  My word! Whatever next???

Their press department managed to keep the story as an exclusive for the BBC on the programme Dr. Who Confidential which aired tonight. Image below was under embargo…

Persil Handpuppet Plugged by Hippo

23 12 2008

Agency: Frank (source: Kate Brackenborough via email)

Brand: Persil

As we wind down for the New Year I thought I’d add in a cute animal story from last month, kindly passed on by Frank PR. They’ve used a Hippo to help them plug a hand puppet being given away with Persil.

“Head keeper, Michael Howes, was desperate to find a way to encourage the animal start eating, when he saw Gloria the Hippo being given away with Persil washing detergent during a shopping trip,” the Telegraph explains.

Slightly weird, but brilliant.

Hats also have to go off to Frank and Alton Towers (source) for this Christmas issues jump, offering free tickets to punters disappointed with the so-called ‘Crapland’ in New Forest:
