Oasis Champion Britishness Once Again

14 04 2008

Brand: Oasis

Celebrity: Noel Gallagher (source)

Noel Gallagher well and truly deserves to be inducted into the PR Hall of Fame today with not one, but two stories championing Britishness. Firstly he’s everywhere jumping on the ‘Jay Z’s so wrong for Glastonbury’ bandwagon. Yes ‘Jigga’ is as big as Sinatra was in the US, but he ain’t right for the tree hugging subculture of Glasto. Glastonbury organisers have to be a little worried – just look at what happened when Fiddy Cent was booked for Reading…

Meanwhile, when pressed on whether Oasis would play The O2 or not, Noel has this to say: ” “[The O2 Arena is] too Americanised for me, and it’s too far away. Any gig you can get to by boat that hasn’t got a beach is wrong.” He might not have a PR svengali behind his statements, but in one fell swoop Noel has reminded us just how Oasis tapped into the ‘cool Britannia’ vibe in the first place.
